The Risks
All travel policies carry an inherent risk for the insurer because of the small premium dollar and the potential exposure of any claim because invariably it occurs in a foreign country.
Usually there are no witnesses and official police reports are often vague and lack detail. In some countries the Police do not even keep records and the reality is, in many African, Asian and Eastern European countries, the Police are not really interested in formalising a complaint regarding lost or stolen property.
In some Asian countries, Police have admitted to signing and stamping blank Police Reports, telling the insured to fill in the details of the incident themselves.
The same can be said with medical and dental services.
Again in many of these countries, it is not uncommon that copies of reports, receipts or personal information are held on file following alleged treatment, which makes it even more difficult to verify records.
